What the OEA research actually says.

Oleoylethanolamide has been studied since the late 1990s. The best way to think about the evidence is as a growing picture, not a finished one.

Mechanism

OEA is described in the literature as a lipid signalling molecule that engages the PPAR-α nuclear receptor and communicates with the brain via vagal afferents. This is the basis of its role in post-meal satiety signalling.

Animal studies

Rodent studies consistently describe reduced food intake and altered lipid metabolism when OEA is administered. Rodent data is a useful starting point but does not translate directly to humans.

Human trials

Human trials are smaller and fewer. Published pilot studies have examined satiety, appetite ratings and eating behaviour with OEA supplementation as an adjunct to lifestyle interventions. Larger, longer randomised trials are still needed before firm clinical conclusions can be drawn.

What we don't claim

  • OEA is not a weight-loss medication.
  • OEA does not replace prescription therapies such as GLP-1 agonists.
  • Individual responses to any supplement vary.
