What is OEA?

Oleoylethanolamide — OEA for short — is a naturally occurring lipid (a fat-derived molecule) produced in the small intestine after eating. It belongs to a family of endogenous fatty-acid ethanolamides your body already makes every day.

Where OEA comes from

OEA is synthesised in the enterocytes lining the upper small intestine, primarily from dietary oleic acid — the same monounsaturated fat that gives extra-virgin olive oil its signature profile. This is why Mediterranean-style eating patterns are so closely tied to the body's own OEA production.

What OEA does in the body

OEA acts as a lipid messenger. Research describes it as part of the body's post-meal signalling system, contributing to the sense of having eaten enough and to normal regulation of appetite and energy balance. It is one of several molecules involved in these everyday physiological processes.

Why supplement with OEA?

Modern eating patterns — highly processed foods, irregular meals, low intake of quality monounsaturated fats — can leave the body's natural OEA rhythm out of sync. OLEACORE® provides ultramicronised OEA in a 300 mg daily capsule to support your own satiety signalling as part of a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.
